Looking to discuss 5.38 gears...
i have 33's currently, wanting to go up to 34" tires next time. Not a huge jump, so i dont expect power to decline a lot, but still, a little extra would be nice to have.
What are going to be pros and cons of regearing to 5.38 from 4.56? How would things be affected like: acceleration, gas mileage, top speed, guage readings, etc?

MUST GET THEM BOTH! That is, unless you want the front tires to be turning at a different rate. The only place that's practical is on sand and mud-only rigs, and those with a bunch of power. I have no doubt in my mind that your accelleration would improve. That's the big reason guys go for "four tens" when they're talking about hot rod axles. MIleage should improve. It's a weird equation, because you'd think that if the wheels are making less rotations in a given distance that you'd be getting better actual mileage. Problem is, it doesn't seem to work out that way. Take this example. SPOA SAMMY has a GM Truck on 44" Boggers, with 5.something gears. He tells me it's right around $100 in gas to get from Beatrice, NE to Hastings, NE, which is only 141 miles. So, it begs the question, "why." I attribute it entirely to wind resistance, increased weight, and increased resistance of the tires against the road surface. I think you'll find that at the same actual speed, you're engine will actual be at .17 faster RPM at any given speed, but if you increase your tire circumference roughly .17 times, it would balance out. In theory. If you look here, you'll notice that there's not a lot of difference in running 29" tall stock tires with 4.56 gears and 34" tall tires with 5.38s. Food for thought.

just to add my 2 cents, the 5.38 would deff pull harder and pretty much carry you up most things, but im am still running 4.56s and have no troubles what so ever pulling my big tires, besides the way gas is getting money is always an issue, but i will say that if mine wasn't an everyday driver i would have those lower gears in it. ............... oh and another thing to think about which has already been mentioned above, the lower gears will make your engine run at a higher rpm (explaining the gas thing) and this, long term, will add more stress to the engine.
