'98 and up Isuzu Troopers have a 23-spline Isuzu Corporate rear axle, and a 17-spline Isuzu Corporate front axle. What this means is that, unless you're not going to do anything really extreme, you'll need to switch out axles to something for which aftermarket parts are more readily available, such as Dana Spicer axles. The biggest problem lies in the suspension, as Troopers have independent front suspension, and a Torsion Bar type at that. Basically, you have an axle housing which extends most of the way out to the sides to each front wheel, but then there's a pair of CV (Constant Velocity) joints on either side of the vehicle, and torsion bars are in place to act as springs. This setup can be suggested to be prone to failure, as it is supposed it is not as strong as a "live axle" or solid axle, setup used on heavier duty vehicles such as duallies and 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups up until a few years ago.
An axle swap is a multi-facted pain in the butt, so I'm told, and shouldn't be attempted in a weekend, or by a guy who needs his Trooper as a daily driver, as it can end up taking a lot of time and a LOT of money.

Axle swaps are a huge mess that I'm about to indulge myself in. IFS really just dosn't give you any flex. I can make my rear end work like crazy but often I am passed up by vehicles that are able to keep their tires on the ground because they have a solid.
