Okay, i have now replaced all door speakers, my head unit, and cut off half the tip of my ringfinger doing this (its reattaching, fun to show people)
my amp and subs are almost 3 years old. I hate them. the amp is MAXED OUT on gain, and it still sounds like a my little pony AM radio pumping out tunes. I think actually it could be the subs wearing out, that they just dont handle wattage no matter how much as well as they once did in their youth. To make things clearer, I got so frustrated with it saturday night i almost threw my amp on the driveway to busted it, weighing pros and cons such that seeing it in a hundred pieces would make me feel better than dealing with its inferiority anymore. My senses hit me, maybe the amp is okay and just the speaker suck. Does this sound logical... do amps "wear out" the same way speakers will? I am thinking of replacing the bandpass box w/ 2 audiobahn 10's with a ported box with 2 10's, possibly some rockford fosgates that are on sale in knox right now. i just want something that will take some abuse for a few years before needing to be replaced or something. I am also considering a ported box w/ 12" rf, and a new 2 channel amp to power it, leaving me with a pile of old equipment that i would probably give away to any of you guys if you wanted it.
So, what would you all do in my situation. I can blow about 400 to 450 bucks on this, new speakers and box, or new amp, or possibly a combo if i can fit it in that budget.

Combo i am probably getting is a 10" rockford fosgate HE sub in a ported box (this box is large) with a ~700w Jensen 2channel amp.
Does this sound good? Was recommended to me by a guy in the shop where they would make and put it in for me. quoted at about 450 bucks, or made with a box about half the size for 400 bucks. I'm leaning towards the smaller box (i would guess its about 2feet long x 1.5foot tall x .51 foot wide.) ... any guesses on how it would sound in the bigger box (about 2.5x 2x2 i'm guessing) i'm going for more cargo room but if the smaller box is going to make the sound degrade i'll go with the bigger.
any input appreciated.

I'm on the verge of installing one 15" in the way back with a mono amp (300w RMS) bolted to the side of the box. The sub isnt anything special (the old round design of sony Xplod), but the amp is sweet...its a Digital Audio brand class D good to 2 Ohms(DA1800). It is made by the Audiobahn people I think. I'd say search out ebay/on-line deals like I did...my amp and sub cost me $280 combined - eventiually I'll pop the sony out and through an Apline type-R 15" in..... *drool* The box I'm building is going to be about 1.5x1.5x1 foot approx. My plan is to mount it on it's 1' edge against the wheel well on the "40" side of the 60/40 door at the back. Then when i go camping I'll flip it down and the 1' height will match with the back seats in their down position which will help support a piece of plywood that'll serve as the base to the camping bed!
