Well, thanks to my Trooper, I was not affected by the flooding down here in Houston Texas. I was heart broken to see a Corvette beside me become swallowed with water(above the windshield). I stopped and offered a tow, but he was in no mood for help. I helped a few people get through the 2-3' water. One time I was pasted my headlights, and barely got to higher ground on time. I am definently looking into a snorkel, even if it will be a home-made one. So, I towed out a Chevy Astro, Honda Civic, pushed out a Geo Metro(owner insisted), led a bunch of scared truck and SUV owners the way to shallower waters, and towed out a mustang, galant, and even a new volkswagen toureg(i thought they were noted for water crossing ability). Well, I got the good feeling of helping others, i pissed off a few tow truckers, but ohhwell. I now realize why i get 18mpg highway, and my trooper is not soo speedy, but when the going gets rough, the troop seems tough as a tank.

that 4.56 gearing is nice eh?
You sound like a good guy, think how many would have (or did) just drive on by the stranded.
Do you know where to get ahold of a snorkel for your truck in case you really wanted one? If you are gonna be in water, relocating the alternator from bottom towards top of the engine compartment may be a good idea as well, not that I know how to do that though.

I don't know where to get a hold of a snorkel. Might make one from PVC, seen it done plenty of times already. Yeah, i am afraid of my alternator going out.

I'm not too knowledgable on alternators, but i've read of more people reporting troubles from mud than just clear/clean water. Still, its not in the best place eh? I'll check on places to get a snorkle, seems like most folks are getting them off www.4wheelparts.com but i'll look again and post back

ARB makes the Safari Snorkel. It's made specifically for Troopers. You can get one from a Glen Wakefield for $248 at Rocky-Road.com Now, it'd be quite a bit cheaper to make one yourself, but this one's nice and molded plastic. As seen here --> That's way cool that you helped all of those people out. It's one of the reasons I love my Trooper, too. It's a lot of fun yanking people out of snow drifts, too. Not to be curmudgeon, here, but for your own financial well-being, in most states, if the owner of the other vehicle hooks your tow rope/strap/chain to his/her vehicle, you can't be liable for damages done to their vehicle. My brother told me this horror story about this friend of his who yanked this guy's Mercedes-Benz out of a snowbank, and the guy's bumper took some damage on the bottom, where nobody could even see it without getting down on the ground, and the guy sued him for a bumper repaint to the tune of $900. How messed up is that? But, that can be avoided if they hook it up, which in most courts would mean that he expressed consent to the possibility that his vehicle might be damaged in the process. Now, if you're dealing with a real novice, I'd make suggestions as to where to hook it up, because someone who doesn't know a lot about cars might try to wrap a chain around some steering linkage, or a sway bar or something, which wouldn't probably hold up too well to a yanking. Anyway, great job with the good samaritanism!!

Isn't that the ARB project trooper or something like that? I've seen pics of it a few times. It is quite "rad"
