We are considering the purchase of a 1995 Trooper, but are a little wary of the engine. We have a mechanic friend who is familiar with the 3.2 Liter single overhead cam engine that was in the Passports and Rodeos that was a disaster. Please comment on the double overhead cam 3.2 in the '95 Trooper. Thanks, Jon

Honestly I haven't heard of many problems with the 3.2 DOHC. The SOHC has a valve lifter noise issue that is more aesthetic than harmful, but people get bummed when their Trooper sounds like a diesel

when does the lifter noise become an issue? I have the noise and it hasn't caused me any problems yet.

AFAIK it is not harmful, just annoying.
Some people have had success using 0W-30 Mobil One to flush out the lifters...might be hard to find 0W-30 in Australia, I'm guessing.

Hey I Have a 3.2 With 200,000 on the engine. Did a valve job on it and didn.t spend the money for new lifters, It runs great and still has a little tapping if it sits for a day or two. But the noise does clear up after a few moments. Passes the state smog tests and still runs out like it always did.I've always run synthetic oil in it.
