Long time since I've been in here! Nice to see it's still around! ;D
I'm having some trouble. Today, for the second time in as many weeks, my Check Engine light started a steady flashing. The thing is, it doesn't do it all the time.
Both times it has done it, it has been after I started the engine up and taken off without a warmup period. I do that more often than not, and only twice has the flashing occurred.
Both times, I've noticed that the flashing occurs only when I'm pressing the accelerator and the RPM's are over 2000.
Then, and here's the kicker, I've pulled over both times to check the oil (due to the 2000 Trooper oil-consumption problem). The first time it needed oil, today it didn't. The thing is, after I started back up, NO FLASHING!
I have no idea. Anyone got the manual for this? Thanks!
ETA: Woops! Looks like I put this in the wrong forum. Any chances of getting it moved?

My 2000 trooper just did the same thing last week. Cranked it up and just pulled off without really letting the engine warm-up but that shouldn't have to be done.
The light flashed only when i was on the gas though!
Also i had a ealier problem with the cam position sensor which had my light on constant.
My mechanic informed me to bring the truck to him immediately cuz it could be doing damage when the light is flashing!
i should have the car back soon and he belivesd the problem is the ion sensor (not exactly sure if i have that correct )

The light flashed only when i was on the gas though! Exactly! Well by all means let me know! I had the light come on full-time about two months ago when my EGR valve went bad. I'm glad you replied! I was beginning to wonder if anyone came here anymore! ;D

My check engine just came on last night, and I suppose I could have let it warm up longer too. I was pushing it a little on the highway. It comes on and goes off intermittently. I did some reasearch on google and will try a few things. Here's what I'll be trying: 1. Securing the gas cap (stopping the turning after a few clicks) 2. diconnectiing the battery for 10 mins (actually replacing it - time for a new one) 3. replacing the spark plugs and wires 4. topping up all fluids 5. oil change (over due) 6. Transmission oil change
I'll report back.

Hi everyone. I have a 97 Trooper and i got sick of waiting for it to warm up in the mornings. So i went to the dealer and bought a block heater. They are only about 30 dollars and it is very easy to install. All you have to do is drain your "cooling system," remove a bolt in the the block and replace it with the heating element . Im going to do it today or tomarrow (not sure if i want to do it on christmas day) and I'll let you guys know how it went.
