Let me tell you, guys, it's a really easy job. Takes one minute including opening and securing the hood. All you'll need is your average pair of pliers to loosen the hose.
It's easy as can be. I'll post pics as soon as I can find time.

how often shouldthe pcv valve be replaced? I've never done it to mine since ownership of 83k - 110k miles...

I suppose it really doesn't need to even be replaced. Just needs to work. Pull it out and jiggle it. If it makes a noise, that's good. If it does not, it's clogged. You could try cleaning it out with some sort of solvent, but as cheap as they are, it couldn't hurt to slap in a new one.
BTW, how have you been?
