Deciding to replace the sparkplugs in my '95 Jackaroo (with the 3.2 SOHC V6) I found oil in about 4 out of the 6 holes. At first I thought the oil might've been there to help seal against dust/water etc, but some were quite badly coated to the point the oil had made it's way up the inside of the stick thing that brings the volts down to the spark plug (does that make sense?) thus had been creating bad connections. Therefore, I now assume the oil is not meant to be there (and given a couple of cylinders did not have any oil at all).
Is this just a leaky valve cover gasket, or is there something else causing this?
Any info appreciated!

I'm no expert, but that just doesn't sound right...
In my past experience, that kind of problem is caused by something serious, like a bad piston ring.
Something you might want to look at (and I just found this out today) is the PCV valve. If it goes bad, your engine will overpressurize on one side (driver on my 2000) and force oil through your cylinders and out your exhaust.
I bring this up because I have been losing (not burning or leaking, mind you, just plain LOSING) oil lately, and it was found that my PCV valve was shot, and that such an issue can lead to oil loss. Since the oil is forced out theough the cylinders, this MAY be at least part of your problem, but I'm still thinking it may be worse than that.
The PCV valve costs all of $5 and 10 minutes to relace, assuming you're a klutz.
Either way, I'd get that checked out ASAP. Now that I think of it, 4 out of 6 cylinders rather negates my PCV valve idea, as only 3 cylinders are affected by it.
Good luck!

I had a similar problem in my 93 V SOHC, but in only 2 of the 6. It turned out to be leaky valve cover gasket. the job itself was not hard, just time consuming.. If you decide to replace them yourself, you should also get: valve cover gaskets, intake mani gasket, and new plug wires... After i replaced them i found that the old ones (plug tube seals) had previously installed wrong.. and i havent had a problem sence.. good luck
