Hi, Im replacing my valve cover gaskets and the spark plug tube gaskets. Does anyone know how I can get access to the upper bolts on the top of the valve covers? This is one design flaw, im afraid i will have to remove the entire intake manifold, then replace those gaskets too just to get access to the valce cover bolts.
I've decided to wait till thanks giving break to deal with this problem. I just can't wait to get up on all 6 cylinders. Till then im just driving 4 miles everyday, so i figure i shouldn't hurt the engine(much).
Answer is..... YES. I do have to remove the upper intake manifold to remove the valve covers. Ohh well, that adds about 2 hours to the job. So, after I finish this saturday, i will post the end results. I am gonna try sea foam after that, to fix the ticking lifters, then it will seem like I have an eniterly new trooper!!(well, to me it will). ;D
;D ;DOkay...I finished doing the job. I had to 1)remove the air intake assembly, 2)romove the throttle body, 3 remove the common chamber, 4)remove the intake manifold(upper), 5)remove the valve covers(pain in the @$$ to get to some bolts). Had to move somethings, and do funny little tricks to get things back into place. All went smoothly. Yesterday I started and took everythig down, today I had to change all the gaskets while reassembling everything. I got the new car look in my engine bay now!! ;D ;D It took me a total of 9 hours of working on it, but i was also goofing around with painting the skid plate, trying to fix the broken radiator drain plug, and other junk.
